Engagement photographers St. Pete

How do you take engagement pictures on the beach?

First, research engagement photographers and find one that best fits your style and budget. Then, plan on what you are going to wear and lastly pick the perfect location with the help of your photographer’s guidance.

As Engagement photographers St. Pete, we like to include a clothing guide and tips on how to prepare when our clients book to ensure they have all of the details covered.

Find your photographer

There is a wide range of photography styles, services and price points – some photographers offer prints, digitals and some offer both. You may prefer a natural light look or you may want lighting equipment to be used.

The best place to look for engagement photographers is on Google or social media.

When should you book your engagement session on the beach?

The best times of day for a beach photoshoot are sunrise and sunset. The beach can be very bright during the day (and sometimes extra hot!) – so, sunrise or sunset is best.

As Engagement photographers St. Pete, we recommend having a back up day in mind if you plan on scheduling your session over the summer. The afternoon thunderstorms can often interfere with beach photoshoots in peak Florida rainy season.

Florida winters are very mild and provide a nice cool, dry and sometimes less crowded environment. However, be sure to plan on layers just in case the temps decide to dip into the 40’s or 50’s.

What is the best time of day for outdoor engagement photos?

The best time of day is during golden hour which is 1 hour before sunset or after sunrise. During golden hour, the lighting is much softer and more flattering.

During the day the bright sun can create harsh shadows and cause you to squint.

In the summer, you will tend to see a lot of thunderstorms in the evening – so make sure you schedule a back up day or time for your engagement photos if they are in July or August.

What should you wear for beach engagement photos?

In the warmer months, you’ll want to stick with light, comfortable and breathable clothing. If you tend to sweat a lot, try picking items that don’t show sweat as much.

Sun dresses, casual button down shirts, and shorts are perfect. Pair neutral shades with pops of complimentary colors.

It’s usually best to be barefoot for beach engagement photos but if you do bring shoes, just make sure they can get wet or sandy.

What are the best colors for beach engagement photos?

Shades of blue, pink or green pair really well with neutrals like cream, beige, white or gray.

As Engagement photographers St. Pete, we put together a few go-to color schemes and clothing ideas that work great with a beach  setting. You don’t have to stick to just white, have fun with color!

How to find the perfect beach for engagement photos?

All beaches have one thing in common, they are pretty. After you have found the best engagement photographer and know what to wear for engagement photos – you will need to find the perfect spot.

Whether you are working with engagement photographers in St. Pete or in another beach destination – they will usually have a list of spots that they recommend. Alternatively, you may have a special location that holds a significant memory and that can be extra special.

For example, I often photograph couples that have a special connection to the beach because they have been coming on vacation since they were a kid. I also photographed one couple that would visit St. Pete every year on an annual couple’s getaway and that is where he proposed.

Additionally, some beaches have unique features like Pass a Grille has a rock jetty at the end of the island that adds character to the background.
